Why correct alignment matters
Your car's alignment isn't just about the steering wheel sitting straight. Geometry affects:
Even a small toe error can scrub tread away rapidly. Inner or outer edge wear is the classic sign.
Misaligned wheels create drag, costing you money at the pump.
Straight-running geometry helps the car track true under braking.
A car that doesn't wander or pull is simply easier and safer to control, especially in wet weather.
Our job is to get your vehicle back to manufacturer-intended settings (or sensible custom specs where modifications demand it) and to explain clearly what we've done and why.
Signs you need wheel alignment
- Steering pull left or right on level roads
- Off-centre steering wheel when travelling straight
- Uneven tyre wear (inner/outer shoulders, feathering, saw-tooth tread)
- New tyres wearing quickly despite correct pressures
- After impacts (potholes, kerb strikes) or suspension work
- Car wanders or feels nervous at speed
- Lane-keeping systems struggle or over-correct
If any of these ring true, book in for a check. We'll measure, show you the readings and advise whether a front-only correction will solve it or if a four-wheel alignment is required.

When to get your alignment checked
Many drivers only think about wheel alignment when there's an obvious problem, but regular checks can save you money in the long run. We recommend having your alignment checked:
- Annually as part of your regular maintenance routine
- After any suspension work or component replacement
- Following impact damage from potholes or kerb strikes
- When fitting new tyres to ensure they wear evenly
- If you notice any symptoms like pulling, wandering, or uneven wear
2-wheel vs 4-wheel alignment — what's the difference?
Sets front toe (and camber/caster where adjustable) so the wheels point the right way and the steering wheel is centred. On many cars this is enough to cure a slight pull or freshen up steering feel.
Includes the rear axle. The rear wheels define the car's thrust angle (the direction the car naturally wants to travel). Correcting the rear first lets us set the front to match, giving a straight steering wheel and stable tracking.
We use computerised geometry and vehicle-specific data to set the car square, then fine-tune the steering-wheel centre on a road test.
Camber, caster and toe — a plain-English explainer
Whether the fronts of the wheels point towards each other (toe-in) or away (toe-out). Wrong toe eats tyres and causes drift.
The tilt of the wheel when viewed head-on. A little negative camber can aid cornering grip; too much chews inner edges.
The fore/aft angle of the steering axis. More positive caster improves straight-line stability and self-centring.
Manufacturers specify ranges for each setting. We aim for within tolerance and, where helpful, choose the preferred values that best suit UK roads and your tyres.
Beyond "tracking": why geometry is the modern standard
You may hear people say, "I just need the tracking done." Traditional "tracking" often means front toe only, measured with simpler tools. On many modern cars (multi-link rear ends, adaptive systems), that's not enough.
Our tracking-vs-alignment guide shows why full geometry wins: we measure all four corners, correct the rear thrust line, then centre the wheel and lock in front toe to match. The car runs straight, and your tyres last.
